Without question, Bollywood produces some fantastic stories and films. But what makes the movie even realistic is the makeup skills and transformation of the actors. They are sometimes unrecognizable with the unique makeover transformation.
There have been films in which the actor had to sit patiently through the full makeup process, most often every day before a shot. It took them hours to complete the entire process. The level of commitment is mind-boggling. The prosthetic makeup completely changes the look of the actors. Sometimes they are completely unrecognizable. Here are some of the most unique makeover transformations in Bollywood:
1. Amitabh Bachchan – Paa
Amitabh Bachchan played the role of Auro or Paa in the movie Paa. A child who has progeria, a life-threatening condition. Christien Tinsley (of The Passion of the Christ fame) and Dominie Till were among the makeup artists on the set (of The Lord of the Rings fame). The makeup look was challenging to achieve but they managed it brilliantly. The film was nominated for a National Film Award for its make-up work (2009).
2. Rishi Kapoor – Kapoor & Sons
In this film, Rishi Kapoor played a 90-year-old grandfather. He played old man and managed like excellent wine. The main goal was to make him appear older than he was. Here, Greg Cannom worked as a makeup artist. The make-up was flawless.
This was the transformation which took 5 hours daily. “Kapoor&Sons”. Cheers Greg Cannom from all of us. You are a genius! pic.twitter.com/IFXsOLHdb0

Rishi Kapoor played a 90-year-old grandfather in this family drama. His charming antics were brilliantly assisted by his excellent make-up, which appeared entirely genuine. It was all thanks to make-up artist Greg Cannom, who also happened to win an Academy Award for Vice at the 91st Academy Awards.
3. Shabana Azmi – Makdee
It was Bollywood’s first comedy horror film. This necessitated not only excellent acting talents but also highly skilled makeup applications. Shabana needed to convert into a wicked witch, which she could only do thanks to Arun Aditya Seal’s magical hands.
4. Shah Rukh Khan – Fan
In this action thriller, Shah Rukh Khan plays a dual role. He changes his appearance to play an infatuated fan. For the role of the fan Gaurav, SRK sought the help of prosthetic makeup. While SRK is no new to playing ‘obsessive’ roles, his artistic change was due to Greg Cannom, who worked on Rishi Kapoor’s appearance in Kapoor & Sons.
5. Akshay Kumar – 2.0
Akshay Kumar plays the role of an ornithologist in the movie 2.0. In the movie, he was seen as a birdman. It’s not easy to turn a human into a birdman with the help of makeup. However, Legacy Effects, the film’s makeup company, accomplished it with ease.
