In 2023, Priyanka Chopra arrived as Nadia Singh in the original Citadel. The story was based in the year 2023 and was about a spy. Now, the Indian version arrives as the prequel to Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra’s Citadel. The series takes you from 1992 to 2000. A syndicate led by Baba (Kay Kay Menon) has an agenda to bring the spy agency Citadel down. Raahi aka Bunny (Varun Dhawan) is a stuntman and Honey (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) is an aspiring actress in the 90s. Both join hands for the mission together. Bunny was an orphan when Baba sheltered him. For Bunny, Baba’s word is to be followed without any question.

Directors Raj & DK have kept the spark of an espionage thriller. The series mostly focuses on the roots and existence of Citadel. They have effectively shown the different timelines of 1992 and 2000. The action sequences are the highlights and that keeps the pace of the narrative. Yes, the story loses its magic in between due to the predictable plot, but some moments will surprise you.

Varun Dhawan has delivered a brilliant performance in this series. He is fierce and his body language is superb. Samantha Ruth Prabhu as Honey is equally impressive. Her character has various layers. Her vulnerability as a mother never diminishes her strength. Even the chemistry between Bunny and Honey looks organic and delightful to watch. The veteran actor Kay Kay Menon is brilliant as a manipulative spy. The core of the series is the child actor Kashi Majumdar. As a young Nadia, she is fearless, sharp, and intelligent and that lays the solid foundation for Priyanka’s character in the original Citadel.

The series demands your patience, especially in the initial three episodes. It falls short in certain areas because of its predictable plot and length. But the story is good with impressive action scenes.
