Dhai Aakhar is set in the 1980s. It is based on the novel Teerthatan Ke Baad by Amrik Singh Deep. The film is the heartfelt tale of a woman Harshita played by Mrinal Kulkarni based in a small town in Uttar Pradesh. She rebuilds her life and identity after living in an abusive marriage for years. Things change when she starts talking to a writer Sridhar through letters. After her husband’s death, Harshita gets a second chance in life.

Instead of going to a Haridwar teerth yatra, Harshita goes to meet Sridhar. Writer Sridhar treats her with respect. When her family discovers the truth, her sons and daughter-in-law plan to through her out from her own home. The film tackles these complicated relationship dramas. Will Harshita reclaim her self-respect or she will continue living the humiliating life? Dhai Aakhar is essentially a love story about how love can heal those who have been mistreated for years by freeing them from the shackles of their past.

The writers Amrik Singh Deep, and Asghar Wajahat penned down the beautiful life of a woman in an abusive relationship and getting a second opportunity in life. Director Praveen Arora did a good job of bringing this heartfelt tale to the world. Dhai Aakhar talks about subjects like domestic violence, patriarchy, and societal pressure and expectations.

Mrinal Kulkarni will steal your heart with her brave performance. She has been terrific in portraying a woman in an abusive relationship and how she rebuilds herself. Her dialogue delivery, expressions, and body language are top-notch. Rohit Kokate shines in the role of an abusive husband. Harish Khanna as Sridhar writer delivers a wonderful performance too. The other cast Chandan Anand, Neer Rao, and Smriti Mishra also did a decent job.

Mrinal Kulkarni Dhai Aakhar Movie

This kind of story works when it has been properly adapted by the director and sincerely played by the artists. In Dhai Aakhar, both the boxes are properly checked. You will feel connected with Mrinal’s character emotionally. A 98-minute duration is crisp. The BGM somewhere lacks as it falls flat in important scenes. In some places, you might get a daily soap feeling. But it quickly gets back to where it belongs. It refrains from being dramatic
