On June 16, the highly anticipated mythical epic Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, will be released in theatres. With Prabhas in the leading role, it is believed to be the greatest movie of the year.

Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, was the only movie that performed remarkably well at the box office thus far in 2023. According to Yash Raj Films, the film made more than Rs 1000 crore abroad.

However, it seems like Adipurush could be able to depose Pathaan. The Indian Express claims that the movie had a budget of Rs 500 crore and that it has already recovered the majority of that cost through the sale of distribution and OTT rights.

Prabhas Is Back

Prabhas is a well-known actor in the Telugu-speaking states. He began his career in the Telugu cinema business before expanding to all of India with the Baahubali movie. Because of the SS Rajamouli films, he also has a sizable fan base in Hindi-speaking countries. And it is anticipated that the star may retake the top place that many disputed after his past two high-budget movies, Saaho, and Radhe Shyam, failed to generate significant box office revenue. Adipurush is a topic that appeals to the general public.

Even before spectators buy tickets, the sale of OTT and distribution rights helps a movie recoup its costs. Adipurush appears to be doing very well in this area. According to a report in The Indian Express, trade analyst Ramesh Bala claimed that the Telugu-speaking states, where Prabhas is from, have sold their distribution rights for Rs 150 crore. In contrast, the rest of the country and the Hindi-speaking states have sold their rights for Rs 120 crore. The movie’s OTT rights, which were also sold for a staggering Rs 210 crore, increased its pre-release revenue.

The movie, which has an approximate duration of 2 hours 59 minutes, has already reserved more than 6000 screens for its distribution in India. Since Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan’s Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, which has reportedly made Rs 58 crore at the domestic box office, there haven’t been any major theatrical releases. This is according to a report in India Today. Adipurush will presumably have a single run in theatres.

Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, also had a successful solo run in January. According to YRF, the movie earned Rs 106 crore globally on its first release day. According to a report in Zed Business, Adipurush’s worldwide gross revenue is anticipated to reach Rs 130 crore, with Rs 80 crore in Telugu, Rs 25 crore in Hindi, and the remaining from overseas.

A long weekend that followed Pathaan’s release on a Wednesday, one day before the national holiday of Republic Day, undoubtedly helped increase ticket sales. Adipurush’s release date is an ordinary Friday without a holiday in the vicinity. Adipurush may soon surpass that significant threshold, according to current predictions.
