The narrative of Ae Watan Mere Watan depicts the pre-independence era. Usha Mehta is a devotee of Mahatma Gandhi. Her father, Hariprasad Mehta, is a judge working for the British Regime. In 1942, when Gandhi Ji started the Quit India movement, it received a huge response. However, he was imprisoned along with other freedom fighters. Additionally, Britishers also use radio, as it became a primary medium to spread misinformation and divide the people of the nation.

Usha understands the necessity of uniting India. She then started a radio channel called Congress Radio. It features speeches by India’s patriotic leaders. Meanwhile, the channel becomes a hit and catches the attention of Ram Manohar Lohia. But Congress Radio also gets noticed by the British. The further story shows the struggle faced by Usha.

Ae Watan Mere Watan (AWMW) Movie Review

Ae Watan Mere Watan has a beautiful script. However, the narrative is about yet another freedom fighter and their contribution to the nation. It does not tell the narrative of the freedom struggle. Therefore, you’re getting a tale of struggle and not all about a heroic story. Additionally, another positive point of the movie is the simple approach of the narrative. Darab Farooqui, with the dialogues, did a good job.

It strengthens the connection with the narrative rather than getting high. Moreover, the screenplay is to the point, and the film never seems to lag. In addition, the production design is top-notch, and the cinematography is praiseworthy—special appreciation for the pre-climax scene, which is just brilliant. However, Ae Watan Mere Watan also has its share of flaws. It seems to be a routine story at times rather than being unique.

Additionally, the British officers are sometimes depicted stereotypically, and that seems off. Nevertheless, Sara Ali Khan delivers a brilliant performance. Emraan Hashmi, as Ram Manohar Lohia, is also exceptional in his role. Sparsh Srivastava, as Fahad, adorably plays his part. Abhay Verma, as Kaushik, is also lovable to watch. All other supporting characters in the film do a good job, too.

Final Verdict

Ae Watan Mere Watan is a simple yet touching patriotic tale with good performances from the cast. Although there are a few minor flaws, it does make up for a good one-time watch with family and friends. We rate this movie 3.5 out of 5 stars.
