Kareena Kapoor, in her debut film Refugee, was cast opposite Hrithik Roshan as Sonia in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. But Kareena walked off three days before the shoot. Hence, Ameesha Patel was cast for the role of Sonia Saxena. In an interview, Ameesha Patel revealed that “She didn’t walk out; Rakesh Ji told them they had differences, and therefore he asked her to leave the film.”

The sources revealed that Kareena Kapoor’s mother, Babita wasn’t happy about the way the project was getting executed and nudged her daughter to get out of her film.

Ameesha Patel signed the film when only a few days were left for the shooting as a female lead in the film. Well! Ameesha Patel was a perfect choice for this movie. Hence, Rakesh Roshan managed to perfect Sonia. Ameesha recalled the memory and said,

“Pinky Aunty (Hrithik’s mother) told me that Rakesh saw me at the wedding, he didn’t sleep all night. He was like, “I got my Sonia, but I hope she says Yes.”

The choice of Sonia was perfect as Ameesha justified the character well, and the film was a big hit. Hence, both the leads start getting recognition from this movie.

Rakesh Rohan has foreseen Ameesha’s success even before this movie. Ameesha revealed that when Rakesh Ji met, he said, “When you are old enough, I will cast you in a film.”  Her debut in Kaho Na… Pyaar Hai has proved that, and she became an overnight star.
