Baby John Review

Baby John is an action-packed mass entertainer. Director Kalees has ensured that though it is an adaptation of Theri, it has its larger-than-life moments. Yes, the story of Baby John is traditional and does not offer anything new. However, the presentation is amazing and you can see the shades of Atlee’s magic. The high-octane action scenes are the highlights of the film, but the emotional moments are its core.

Baby John Performances

Varun Dhawan has delivered a terrific performance. He has portrayed a doting father and a fearless cop with utmost sincerity. The way he put energy into his character is superb. Be it humor, drama, or action, Varun Dhawan excels in his performance in Baby John. His chemistry with Zara Zyanna is adorable.

Keerthy Suresh, on her Bollywood debut, looked gorgeous. She has a limited, but impactful role that she played gracefully. The character of Wamiqa Gabbi is under-cooked, still, she left her mark with her decent performance. Zara Zyanna is the soul of the film. Rajpal Yadav has the best monologue in the film. Apart from humor, he has some good action sequences.

via

Jackie Shroff as the menacing antagonist delivers a solid performance. His look is evil and he portrays his role with conviction. The veteran actor Sheeba Chadha as John’s mother was equally good. Sanya Malhotra is in a blink-and-miss cameo appearance. However, Salman Khan’s cameo as Agent Bhaijaan is whistle-worthy. Salman Khan fans are in for a treat.

Another thing that elevates the film is Thaman S’s background music. The BGM simply takes Baby John in a different aura. The songs are average. The first half of the film is entertaining. Initially, it starts on a decent note but picks up the pace. The interval block is solid. The second half is full of high-octane action sequences, dramatic moments, and a brilliant climax.

Final Verdict

Baby John is a terrific mass entertainer packed with emotions, action, and drama. The powerful performances from Varun Dhawan, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav, along with Thaman S’s background music elevate it to a larger-than-life experience. It is an entertaining watch at the theatres this Christmas and New Year.
