A long wait is over, and Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus has been released at the cinema halls. It is a 2022 Hindi-language epic comedy movie. Rohit Shetty is the film’s director and producer. Additionally, T-Series and Rohit Shetty Productionz jointly collaborated on the production. Along with Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Varun Sharma, Ranveer Singh plays a dual role in the movie. Moreover, Deepika Padukone and Ajay Devgn make special appearances in it. Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors served as the basis for the movie Cirkus.
Cirkus Story
When the movie starts, Roy has a serious expression on his face. He was trying to convince university intellectuals that if a couple favors surrogacy and adoption, they may become a parent. At this point, he is questioned about the bloodline by one intellect. Later, at the Jamnadas Orphanage, the one which he co-runs with Joy, he swaps two twin babies. Additionally, he promised to tell the babies the truth 30 years from now. This serves as the basis for the comedy-drama.
In addition, two wealthy families adopt the swapped twins, who are no longer identical. The names of the orphanage owners were given to the two Roys and the two Joys. The plot becomes even more fascinating when Roy and Joy arrive in Ooty with their love interests. The dramatic roller coaster starts at this point. Do the four people meet up somewhere? Do they come to know the swapping secret? In the movie, all of these complex concerns get an answer.
Cirkus Movie Review
Its plot is not unique and is based on a twins’ mismatched error. Shetty also introduces a large cast of supporting figures to make the subject appear fresh. However, Roy’s biggest trick, in which he employs electricity to inspire humor, is pretty quickly worthless. The film, which is set in the 1960s, cleverly includes a lot of nostalgia for old movies. Additionally, you can see a banner for Johnny Mera Naam and hear Kishore Kumar’s Chalti ka Naam Gadi in the background. This lets you know that the director is honoring some of his favorite movies. Additionally, Singh’s ability to deliver the funniest lines while maintaining his composure is comparable to the real-life reels that we see.
Cirkus performs best when the supporting cast is having ample opporhas shine. Sanjay Mishra, Johnny Lever, and Mukesh Tiwari are just a few of the personalities that Shetty spends as much time as possible developing. Not to mention that Shetty has always been strong at developing parallel plots and using characters to advance the plot. Only a few situations, meanwhile, successfully utilize the writing’s punchlines and rhymes. There are a few instances where they attempted to show it humorously but failed to make it hilarious.
Final Verdict
Cirkus has the drawback of feeling dated. Not because it takes place in the 1960s, but because the plot is monotonous. Unlike Shetty’s earlier movies, some of the VFX in this one are shoddy, and the music is a major downer. Making a dumb comedy is not harmful, but for it to succeed, you need some strong writing to support your work. The script in Cirkus is mediocre, and the only time the movie picks up pace is when a supporting cast member excels. Pooja Hegde and Jacqueline Fernandez don’t have much to offer.
Despite giving his all in dual roles, Ranveer is let down by a poor storyline that doesn’t do justice to his efforts. The film has its moments. Although the climax is entertaining, and Ranveer is energetic in most sequences, the film as a whole falls short of providing what you were hoping for. We give the film a score of 2.5 out of 5.
