Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina’s Jigra was released yesterday. The film starts on the lower side at the Box Office. The Day 1 collection of Jigra
is not on the expected lines. Jigra collected Rs 4.55 crore India nett. However, despite low numbers, the film has been blamed for fake collections. Bollywood actor Divya Khossla Kumar has slammed Alia Bhatt for showing a fake collection. Divya Khossla Kumar’s recently released film Savi was based on the plot of Jailbreak. Jigra also resembles the same storyline. The only difference between the two films is, that a wife wants to protect her husband in Savi, while a sister wants to protect her brother in Jigra.
Divya Khossla Slams Alia Bhatt Over Jigra Collections
Divya Khossla potentially called out Alia Bhatt, claiming that the theatre screening for Jigra is running empty. On her Instagram story, Divya Khossla shared a photo of an empty theatre and wrote,
“She went to the City Mall, PVR Andheri for the Jigra show. The theatre was totally empty. All theatres going empty everywhere. #AliaBhatt me each me Bahut #Jigra hai Khud hi tickets karide aur fake collections announce kar diye. I still wonder why paid media is on silent mode.”
Divya accused Alia of inflating the box office collection of Jigra by purchasing tickets of herself to the collection. She didn’t stop there. Divya Khossla reacted to the similarities between Savi and Alia Bhatt’s Jigra, she acknowledged the connection between both the movies and said that each film has its part, and is thankful she explored the genre first. Savi starring Harshavardhan Rane and Anil Kapoor is about a housewife trying to break her husband out of a high-security prison in England. In Jigra, Alia Bhatt’s character plans a jailbreak to rescue her brother from prison.
In her recent interview with IANS, Divya said,
“Yes, I have been getting this question a lot from the media, the industry, and the trade that Se and Jigra are seeing very familiar, including the plot and everything. Well, I would like just to add that with the love of the audience and the grace of God, Savi has proved worth totally on its own merit.
We also made it a very good run in theatres and OTT platforms. So I’m just thankful for all the love the audience is giving. And yes, our film was based on jailbreak. How a simple housewife attempts a jailbreak to get her husband out of prison and even though Jigra may be similar to it, I feel every film has its journey to it, and sometimes two production houses can make a film on a similar”.
Savi received a good response from the critics and the audience. Savi ran successfully and collected around Rs 18 crore at the Box Office. The film has also been applauded after its streaming on Netflix. However, for Jigra, the reviews are mixed.
