The trailer of Kangana Ranaut’s most anticipated film ‘Emergency’ is out. The film is based on India’s darkest chapter set in 1975 India during the Emergency. Kangana Ranaut has directed the film. She is also the producer and is producing under her banner Manikarnika Films, along with Zee Studios. Emergency stars Kangana Ranaut, Mahima Chaudhry, Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, late Satish Kaushik, Milind Soman, and Vishak Nair in pivotal roles.

A 2-minute 54-second trailer starts with Kangana Ranaut as she features former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The trailer shows a young Indira Gandhi’s bond with her father, the late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, as she embarks on her political journey.

In the trailer, it is shown, how Indira Gandhi steered through wars, political issues, and the most controversial and darkest chapter in India, the Emergency period from 1975 to 1977. The Emergency trailer showcases how Indira Gandhi’s life played out like a Shakespearean tragedy.

In addition to Kangana Ranaut, the film features Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, late actor Satish Kaushik as former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar.

Talking about the film, Kangana Ranaut said,

“I am deeply inspired by William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, essence of Emergency is the destruction wrought when ambition goes unchecked by moral constraints, it is undoubtedly the most sensational chapter of Indian democracy and I am eagerly awaiting its worldwide release on 6th September 2024.”

Even in her recent interview with Variety,  Kangana Ranaut compared former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s life to a Shakespearean tragedy. She said,

“Her life was such a Shakespearean tragedy. It’s not for us to judge or evaluate. It is what it is. When people see the film they will realize that it is such an honest take on the Emergency, what led to it, and what eventually came of it.”

Emergency film portrays a significant chapter in India’s political history. The film was scheduled for an earlier release but later got postponed because of Kangana’s election campaign. Now, the political drama film Emergency will hit theatres worldwide on September 6, 2024.
