Game Changer Movie Review: Ram Charan Shines In Shankar’s Decent Political Drama

One of the most awaited movies, Game Changer finally arrived at the theatres. This is the directorial debut of Shankar in Tollywood. Game Changer stars Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, Anjali, Sunil, and SJ Suryah. Shankar’s last film Indian 2 did not perform well at the box office and received rejection from the audience. Ram Charan returns after the blockbuster success of RRR. It is his first solo film after RRR. Game Changer is a political drama with a predictable plot.

Game Changer Story

The story revolves around IAS officer Ram Nandan (Ram Charan) who has anger issues. He is a newly appointed Collector in Visakhapatnam known for his integrity and commitment to justice. He wants to make Visakhapatnam corruption-free. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Bobbili Satyamurthy (Srikanth), who was once corrupt has a change of heart. He instructs his son Mopidevi (SJ Suryah) and Maavera Munimanikam (Jayaram), and his ministers to run a corruption-free government for the next year while they remain in power.

However, the son of Chief Minister Mopidevi wants to be the Chief Minister at any cost. He is involved in many illegal activities. What will happen when Ram Nandan and Mopdevi face off against each other?

Game Changer Movie Review

Shankar is known for making films on corruption, Game Changer is no exception. It is also a political drama with a father-son and villain face-off. Yes, the film is entertaining but does not offer anything new, as it works on a tried and tested formula. The first half takes its own time to build and it is mediocre. With a romantic angle and Sunil’s comedy in the first half, the story looks tedious. However, the interval block elevates the film and makes it excited. The second half is riveting and filled with twists. The background score of Thaman S elevates the scenes to perfection.

Ram Charan is excellent in the double role of Ram Nandan and Appanna. His dialogue delivery, expressions, and acting are simply terrific. He carries the film on his shoulders with utmost perfection. Kiara Advani looked good in her limited screen presence. Even the chemistry between Ram Charan and Kiara Advani is half-baked. SJ Suryah played his role well. He as a hungry politician adds the right flavor to his performance. The other starcast provided solid support to the story but they could have had a lot more to do. The visuals of the film are stunning. The music of the film is mediocre. Even the emotional angle does not provide the much-needed depth to the film.

Final Verdict

Overall, Game Changer is a worthy political drama but with a predictable plot. Shakar once again fails to create the magic that he is known for before Indian 2. There are shortcomings with the tried and tested formula, but Game Changer is better than Indian 2. The performance of Ram Charan and the visual spectacle make it a decent watch over the weekend.
