Starting From Where It Ended

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special ended off with the Guardians having established their headquarters at Knowhere. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 picks up where the story left off. Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), despite the team’s growing reputation as the world’s defenders, is still having trouble accepting Gamora’s passing. Although there is a Gamora from another reality, she has no desire to reunite with Peter or join the Guardians.

The efforts of the Guardians to secure and reconstruct Knowhere are abruptly put on hold when Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) attacks them. In a post-credits sequence in Vol. 2, it was hinted to us that Adam was created by the High Priestess of the Sovereign civilization.

The High Evolutionary wants to find Rocket because he is the only one of his creations that has shown the capacity to think creatively outside the constraints of their planned programming. The High Priestess sends Adam to kidnap Rocket because the Sovereigns are in the High Evolutionary’s hands. Rocket’s heart has a safety device installed by the High Evolutionary to prevent theft of his scientific knowledge; therefore, any attempt at healing would only push Rocket closer to death.

Saving Rocket

In order to save their buddy, the Guardians decide to take a risky chance. Since they don’t know Rocket’s past, the Guardians rely on the few leads they have at their disposal. The High Evolutionary created Orgo-Corp, which is thought to be where Rocket enhancements theoretically came from. As a result, the Guardians are hoping to find the information they need in Orgo-Corp’s records to bypass Rocket’s failsafe.

However, The Guardians’ adventure to Orgo-Corp did not give them the key to turning off Rocket’s failsafe. The Guardians travel to the High Evolutionary’s base in Counter-Earth, a strange planet populated by anthropomorphic animals, in an attempt to protect Rocket’s life. Gamora wishes to rejoin the Ravagers by that point, but since there isn’t much time left, she has to stay with the Guardians until the Final Showdown.

During the Final Showdown, Star-Lord asks Cosmo and Kraglin to fly from Knowhere to their location. With the arrival of Knowhere station, the Guardians have the upper hand, and Rocket, Peter, Groot, and Gamora get the firepower they need to break into the ship. However, Adam once again appears, but Peter is able to utilize his expertise to program the Bowie to self-destruct and destroy Adam. Mantis uses her empathic powers to befriend the creatures, and finally, all of the Guardians are reunited.

But it’s not quite over yet. Once everyone is aware that the High Evolutionary holds kids in the basement, the Guardians come to join forces to free everyone. At the same time, the High Evolutionary unleashes an army of creatures in Knowhere. Together, Kraglin and Cosmo protect the people of Knowhere by fighting off the invaders. The children escape, and even Adam gets rescued.

During all this, the High Evolutionary crew stages a mutiny because they feel that their leader has lost sight of his mission. However, the High Evolutionary kills his crew and destroys the ship’s controls. Then the High Evolutionary goes after Rocket and attacks him. The Guardians come to his rescue, and the villain is defeated. However, Rocket decided not to execute him since it would not be a proper way for a Guardian to act. And so, The Guardian emerges victorious.
