IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack is a recently released six-episode thriller series. It is based on a true incident and is adapted from the book Flight Into Fear. The book was written by the plane’s Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury. Meanwhile, Anubhav Sinha makes his web series debut after a very long hiatus along with Trishant Srivastava. The series stars Vijay Varma, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Arvind Swami, Dia Mirza, Patralekhaa, Amrita Puri, and Kumud Mishra in the lead roles. Apart from them, there are several other cast members like Ellie Flory Fawcett, Ujjwal Gauraha, Karan Desai, and more.

IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack is a story based on a true incident. The hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814 was one of the major and most dramatic incidents in Indian aviation history. The aircraft was hijacked by five terrorists soon after its takeoff from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
Additionally, the hijackers forcefully made the plane land in Amritsar, Lahore, Dubai, and eventually in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The Hijack lasted for a week and ended with the release of three terrorists in exchange for the hostages. However, tragically, one passenger, Rupin Katyal, was murdered during the incident.

IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack is a series that perfectly captures the diplomacy within Delhi’s War Room and tense conversations at Kandahar’s Negotiation Station. The director of the series, Anubhav Sinha, is popular for his gritty and realistic filmmaking. Therefore, this series doesn’t just recall the tragic incident but also immerses you emotionally. It takes you through the emotional turmoil of a nation gripped by fear, hope, and desperation.
The powerful storytelling along with the stunning visual effects and mesmerizing performances by the cast, makes this a must-watch. Talking about the performances, Naseeruddin Shah has done a remarkable job yet again. His dialogue delivery and acting skills will surely win you over. Another brilliant actor Pankaj Kapur also brings depth to the narrative. Additionally, Vijay Varma as always, proves his versatility. He as Captain Sharan Dev shines with his performance. Dia Mirza and Amrita Puri as newspaper editors are exceptional. Arvind Swami also did a great job.
Apart from them Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Anupam Tripathi, Kanwaljeet Singh, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and others played their parts well. However, sometimes it feels a little too complicated to understand. Several scenes also seem a little dragged at times. The VFX team has done a great job. The riveting narrative and the fact that it’s not just fiction but a true story makes it worth watching for everyone.

The series is a gripping portrayal of the longest hijacking in Indian Aviation history, lasting seven tense days. The series keeps you on the edge of your seat with its riveting narrative and heart-winning performances, It is surely a binge-worthy watch. We rate this series 4 out of 5 stars.
