As the name suggests, the story revolves around Laal Singh Chaddha (Aamir Khan), who was born in the village of Karoli near Pathankot, Punjab, in 1971. His mother, Gurpreet (Mona Singh), is separated from her husband and raises Laal alone. Laal is fitted with leg braces as he faces difficulty while walking. He has a low IQ, but his mother wants him to be admitted to a normal school. Laal falls in love with his classmate Rupa (Kareena Kapoor Khan). The story takes a turn when one day, Laal is chased by some bullies when he runs and enters college ground. The sports coach sees him running fast and makes him participate in running tournaments. Laal enlists in the army and becomes friends with Bala. However, Bala dies during Kargil War. What happens next forms the film.

Laal Singh Chaddha Review

Aamir Khan, known as Mr. Perfectionist, is making his comeback after almost four years. His last release was the 2018 film Thugs Of Hindostan. He has played many brilliant roles in his career, but to be honest, Laal Singh Chaddha is not there in the list. We have seen Aamir Khan playing similar kinds of roles in films like PK and even Dhoom 3 (role of a Samar). Kareena Kapoor Khan looks good in her role. Laal Singh Chaddha is the Hindi remake of Tom Hanks’ 1994 Hollywood classic film ‘Forrest Gump.’

Still From Trailer

Atul Kulkarni has tried to adapt the English film properly. He has improvised it to the Indian version. There are some good moments in the film. However, the problem is the film’s screenplay. It loses its plot in the second half. It gets stretched, and the 2 hours 40 minutes duration looks far too lengthy. If the length of the film could be reduced to at least 20 minutes, especially in the second half, it could have saved this sinking ship. The music is forgettable. The cinematography is superb.

Final Verdict

Laal Singh Chaddha has some good moments in patches. However, the length and slow pace, especially in the second half, spoils the momentum and turns out to be a disappointment. You can watch the film if you are a fan of Aamir Khan. We give Laal Singh Chaddha 2.5 stars out of 5.
