Before coming into the acting career, Genelia was a state-level athlete and a national-level footballer. She has played many tournaments of football at various destinations.

Apart from being very busy with her acting career, the actress judiciously took out time for social work. She hosted popular Telugu shows like Netru, Indru, and Nalai. The programs helped in raising funds for homeless women suffering from mental illness.
8. E-bay 2010 ‘Dream House’ Contest Participant
Genelia participated in the ‘Dream House’ contest hosted by the online market portal e-bay. She was provided with a fund of ₹450,000 for transforming an empty house in Bandra into a desirable dream house. Later she auctioned the items on the occasion of Children’s day. All the money received from the auction was given to an NGO named ‘Aseema’.
9. LTTE Controversy
In 2010, a controversy broke out when the actress attended the controversial IIFA awards in Colombo. Most of the Tamil film industry superstars had boycotted going to the function due to the alleged killing of the Tamil civilians in Srilanka. This was when the conflict between the Srilankan army and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam (LTTE) was at its peak. Kollywood demanded a ban on her films for this act of negligence.
10. Marriage Controversy
The actress and her co-actor John Abraham were to shoot a marriage sequel during the shooting of the movie Force. The scene was carried out with such sheer authenticity that it was considered that they had actually been married. The priest who was to conduct the marriage of Riteish and Genelia registered a complaint that the actress had already been married. But the complaint was thrashed, claiming it was a publicity stunt.
11. Private Person
Unlike most of the stars of Bollywood, Genelia is a very private person. It is well known that the actress has always kept her personal life under wraps. Genelia is a very religious person. She regularly attends Sunday Mass at St. Anne’s Parish in Bandra. In her interview, she commented that she keeps a Novena every Wednesday at St. Micheal’s Church in Mahim. In another interview, she said that “My communication with God is conversational, I’m God’s favorite child; I believe that God has always been kind to me.”
