National Cinema Day 2024 Sees Around 30 Lakh Moviegoers: Stree 2 Remains First Choice, Tujhe Meri Kasam Is A Surprise

National Cinema Day 2024 was a huge success. Over 30 lakh people watched the films at the cinema halls across all formats and languages. For the Hindi box office, Stree 2 remains the first choice for moviegoers even in the sixth week. It is followed by the latest release Yudhra and Tumbbad re-release. Here is the analysis of the films on National Cinema Day.

Stree 2 Remains First Choice For Moviegoers

Despite coming into the sixth week, Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 Sarkate Ka Aatank remains the first choice for moviegoers. It is almost unaffected by the new releases Yudhra and Kahan Shuru Kahaan Khatam. Stree 2 collected Rs 5.20 crore on National Cinema Day, it was Day 37. Stree 2 will cross Rs 600 crore this weekend. The first-ever Hindi film to achieve this feat.

The ticket price was Rs 99 on National Cinema Day. It once again proved that if the price is reasonable, the audience goes to cinema halls. Khel Khel Mein once again saw an upward trend. It was almost rejected in week 1. However, the improved ticket sales, and no big releases, revived Akshay Kumar’s film. Khel Khel Mein is a good film and glad to see that audiences are turning up for the film. The latest release Yudhra starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Malavika Mohanan collects Rs 4.52 crore. But today the film has seen a drastic fall in regular ticket prices. The second-day estimate will turn out to be around Rs 2 to 2.20 crore. The other latest release Kahan Shuru Kahan Khatam collects Rs 1.08 crore.

Tumbbad received a thunderous response after the re-release. On National Cinema Day, it collected 3.04 crore. Roughly 2.7 lakh moviegoers turned in to watch the mythological horror in theaters. Veer Zara, which has limited screening of only 203 cinemas collected Rs 22 lakhs.

Tujhe Meri Kasam Surprises Everyone

Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D’Souza’s debut film Tujhe Meri Kasam receives loads of love from the audience. The film which was released in 2003, was re-released on September 13. With no satellite rights sold, and the film is not available on any OTT platforms, the audience is re-watching it again at the cinema halls.

Tujhe Meri Kasam is performing exceptionally well in Maharashtra. The shows in Pune were almost sold out. Yes, the ticket count is low compared to Stree 2, Yudhra, and Tumbbad due to limited screens. Still, the response to the film is phenomenal.

Regional Films Also Did Well

A regional Marathi film Navra Maza Navsacha collected Rs 1.86 crore with few of the cinema halls yet to report the numbers.  Thalapathy Vijay’s The GOAT sold around 2 lakh tickets in all languages. Punjabi films Gandhi 3, Bibi Rajni, and Ardaas 3 sold over 1.1 lakh tickets.

If the ticket prices are affordable, the audience will surely love to watch the cinema on the big screen. The National Cinema Day should be considered as a test case by all the multiplexes and cinema hall owners to reconsider and revise the ticket prices to generate more footfall.
