Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s film Pathaan is soon to hit the big screen. Since its announcement, the film has been termed the most anticipated movie of 2023. Furthermore, the reason is obvious, with this film, SRK is making his comeback. However, what is worth noting is that recently, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has suggested a few changes to the film. It is in terms of dialogue and certain scenes from the film and its recently released controversial song “Besharam Rang.” If you are curious to know about it all in detail, then you are at the right place. Read on to enlighten yourself about the Pathaan controversy.
The CBFC Asks For More Than 10 Cuts In “Pathaan”
Several changes have been suggested to SRK and Deepika Padukone starrer Pathaan. The Censor Board has asked for more than 10 cuts in the film, including dialogues and several scenes. Furthermore, as per the reports of Bollywood Hungama, the word “RAW” has been replaced with “Hamare,” “Langde Lulle” was replaced by “Toote Foote,” “PM” was replaced with “President or Minister,” and the word “PMO” was removed in 13 places. The “Ashok Chakra” was replaced by “Veer Puraskar,” “ex-KGB” with “ex-SBU,” and “Mrs. Bharatmata” with “Hamari Bharatmata.” The report further stated that the word “scotch” was replaced by “drink” while the text “Black Prison, Russia,” which appears in the film, was replaced by “Black Prison.”
Interestingly, in addition to changes in dialogue, changes in the certain shot were also suggested. In the song, Besharam Rang, the close-up shots of buttocks, “side pose (partial n*dity)” shots, as well as the visuals of sensuous dance movements during the lyrics, have been censored and replaced with “suitable shots.” However, it is still under a lot of deliberation if Deepika Padukone’s controversial orange swimsuit has been censored or not.

Here’s What The CBFC’s Chairperson Prasoon Joshi Told
Furthermore, amid all of this Pathaan controversy, CBFC’s chairperson Prasoon Joshi came forward to give clarity. While talking to the PTI, he said, as we quote,
“I must reiterate that our culture and faith are glorious, intricate, and nuanced. And we have to be careful that it does not get defined by trivia, which takes the focus away from the real and the true. And like I have said earlier as well, that the trust between creators and audience is most important to protect, and the creators should keep working towards it.”
We all remember how since the release of the song, the film has been receiving a lot of backlash. Furthermore, recently a protest happened in Ahmedabad where people tore down the posters of Pathaan. In addition to this, a video by the Bajrang Dal Gujarat on Twitter also came to the limelight. The video was from Alpha One mall in Vastrapur, where members of Bajrang Dal were shouting slogans. They also tore posters as well as huge cut-outs of Pathaan’s star cast.
