Lyca Productions’ social media handle, which produced the magnum opus, shared this achievement with admirers on Twitter. “#PS2 continues to rule the box office with a 300 crore+ collection!” It also distributed posters with the wording “300+ cr worldwide gross in cinemas worldwide,” according to the article.
The epic period drama, however, lags behind its predecessor, ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I,’ in terms of box office receipts. The Aishwarya Rai-Vikram starrer achieved this milestone within a week of its debut in 2022; however, the sequel took two weeks.

According to the source, the film grossed Rs 156 crore in India. This makes the Mani Ratnam-directed film the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023. It surpassed Thalapathy Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer action drama Varisu, which opened in theatres during the Pongal weekend in January and grossed Rs 300 crore worldwide.
Ponniyin Selvan 1 grossed over Rs 500 crore globally, making it the second highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, trailing only Shankar’s 2.0, which starred Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar. The 2018 release was the sequel to Enthiran, which was released in 2010. It grossed Rs 625 crore globally.

The principal photography for both parts began in December 2019, with a two-week break owing to the COVID-19 epidemic. Extra scenes for the sequel were completed in March 2023. A. R. Rahman composed the soundtrack, Ravi Varman shot the film, A. Sreekar Prasad edited it, and Thota Tharani designed the production.
Ponniyin Selvan: II was released in theatres worldwide on April 28, 2023, in conventional, IMAX, 4DX, and EPIQ formats, garnering accolades from film critics who commended the directing, music, visuals, cast performances, and fidelity to the novel.
