Ponniyin Selvan 2 by director Mani Ratnam is doing well in its second week in theatres. The film earned more than Rs 160 crore net in India in 13 days and is still performing well at the box office. It remains to be seen whether the picture will gain traction during its second weekend. Ponniyin Selvan 2 has created history by grossing Rs 300 crore worldwide. The two parts of the film were quite profitable for the producers.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 was released in theatres on April 28 to rave reviews. The film was released in five languages across India. While the Tamil version is doing extraordinarily well, the other languages are not. As a result, Ponniyin Selvan 2 has slowed considerably in the second week compared to Week 1. The film is believed to have generated Rs 2.50 crore in India as of Wednesday, May 10. This brings the total collection in India to Rs 160.70 crore net. According to trade reports, the collection will rise again over the coming weekend.

After a two-week successful run, Ponniyin Selvan 2 is facing heavy competition with this Friday’s release of movies such as Venkat Prabhu’s Custody, Santhanu starrer Raavana Kottam, Farhana featuring Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead role in Manikandan’s Good Night.
About Ponniyin Selvan
Ponniyin Selvan is a historical play based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s famous literary work of the same name. AR Rahman composed the soundtrack for the film. The key actors are Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi. The supporting cast includes Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Vikram Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, and Prabhu.
Students in Tamil Nadu got dressed up as film characters and visited to watch the movie, to which theater actor Jayapal said, “This Ponniyin Selvan film is a way for students to learn about the history of the Cholas. It is running successfully all over Tamil Nadu. In order to make the students know about the history of the Cholas after seeing this film, they have been brought here as the characters.”
