It has been 35 years since Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan was telecast on television for the first time. Arun became immortalized when he played Lord Ram on-screen. Still today, people give him immense respect. Recently, a video of him being at the airport went viral. A woman was seen falling at his feet. The actor was surprised by the gesture and was clueless as to what to do next. A woman was in tears when she touched Arun Govil’s feet. The actor requested a person with her to pick her up. The woman was on her knees with folded hands in front of him.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Arun recalled the incident and shared,
“It was 6.30 in the morning. This woman saw me at the airport and screamed ‘Ram!’ She then caught my leg and literally rubbed her forehead on my shoe! I didn’t know what to do at that point; I couldn’t even bend to pick her up. When she calmed down a little, I tried to make her stand. She told me her husband is in the ICU. She had got a yellow dupatta, which she wanted to wrap around me. I told her, ‘Take this dupatta and make your husband wear it.'”
How Does Arun Govil React To Such Gestures?
Talking about such gestures and affection from the people, Arun Govil said,
“Yeh unn bhakton ke mann mein aata hai ki iss aadmi ke paaon chhoone hain, mera kya reaction aana chahiye ispe? I’ve always believed that they are not touching my feet; they are paying an ode to their own belief and faith. I am a mere symbol; Lord Ram made me that.”
This is not the first time the actor is facing this type of situation. He said that initially when someone tried to touch his feet and bow down to him, he would stop them from doing so. However, he later gave up. Arun added,
“People who are older than me would touch my feet. I would say, ‘Please aap aisa mat kijiye.’ Someone said to me, ‘Do you have a problem?’ I said, ‘No, but my culture doesn’t allow elders to touch the feet of someone younger.’ But, they insisted, so I agreed.”
Arun Govil On His Career
Speaking to IANS, he told that for the last 14 years, he had not done anything apart from some special appearances. He was disappointed with this. He added,
“I had started my career as a Hindi film hero and post Ramayan, when I wanted to return to Bollywood, producers said, ‘Your image as Ram is so strong we cannot cast you as anyone else or give you a supporting role.”
“They felt that I was not suited for commercial movies anymore. That became the biggest minus point of my career, and I realized that I could never return to showbiz the way I wanted to. I took up a few TV shows, but every time I did something, people rejected me, saying, ‘Arre, Ramji kya kar rahe hain (Hey! What is Lord Ram doing here).”
