Sam Bahadur intricately weaves together the threads of duty, love for the nation, and an unyielding resolve, providing a rich tapestry for cinematic exploration. The filmmaker also adeptly captures the essence of the bygone era spanning from the 1930s to the 1970s. It vividly portrays the intensity of war sequences. Furthermore, the biopic gains significant strength from the lead portrayal by Vicky Kaushal. He seamlessly immerses himself in the character to such an extent that one might almost believe the late field marshal, Sam Manekshaw, is present on the silver screen.

Vicky Kaushal’s compelling and instinctive performance unfolds an extraordinary saga of a man deeply devoted to his uniform and his army above all else. Meanwhile, Sanya Malhotra’s portrayal of Manekshaw’s wife, Siloo Bode, perfectly fits. She exudes a resilient self while harboring profound emotions within. Fatima Sana Shaikh impresses as Indira Gandhi, and so does Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub in his role as Yahya Khan. Meghna Gulzar directs this film with utmost sincerity and full dedication.

Technically proficient, Sam Bahadur stands strong in its cinematic craft, elevated by an evocative background score that aptly enhances the film’s mood. However, one notable drawback lies in the occasional struggle of the narrative to establish a coherent connection. It occasionally results in a somewhat fragmented and slow-paced progression of the story.
