South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2023, the much-awaited extravaganza of the Southern film industry, lit up Dubai on September 15th and 16th at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This year, they marked the eleventh edition of SIIMA. Thus, the stars shone their brightest, and cinema enthusiasts celebrated the magic of South Indian cinema.
Best Director Awards
Best Malayalam Director: The competition was fierce, but Amal Neerad clinched the coveted title of “Bheeshma Parvan.” At the same time, notable names like Khalid Rahman, Mahesh Narayanan, Tharun Moorthy, and Vineeth Sreenivasan put up intense fights.
Best Tamil Director: Gautham Ramachandran triumphed for “Gargi”. She was also, leaving behind acclaimed directors like Lokesh Kanagaraj, M Manikandan, Mani Ratnam, and Mithran R Jawahar.
Best Kannada Director: Anup Bhandari, the man behind “Vikrant Rona,” emerged as the victor. The competition included Darling Krishna, Kiranraj K, Prashant Neel, and Rishab Shetty.
Best Telugu Director: SS Rajamouli wielded his directorial prowess in “RRR” and won the hearts of both the jury and the audience. Chandoo Mondeti, Hanu Raghavapudi, Sashi Kiran Tikka, and Vimal Krishna also showcased their brilliance.
Best Comedian Awards
Best Telugu Comedy Actor: Brahmaji, Rajendra Prasad, Rajkumar Kasireddy, Srinivasa Reddy, and Vennela Kishore tickled funny bones, but Brahmaji’s humor in “Like Share & Subscribe” had everyone in splits.
Best Tamil Comedy Actor: Harish Kumar, Karunas, Soori, VTV Ganesh. And Yogi Babu created waves of laughter, with Soori’s antics in “Don” earning him the accolade.
Best Malayalam Comedy Actor: Laughter echoed through the audience as Azees Nedumangad, Johny Antony, Pramod Velijanad, Rajesh Madhavan, and Shammi Thilakan tickled their funny bones. Azees Nedumangad’s rib-tickling performance in “Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey” earned him the crown.
Best Kannada Comedy Actor:
Chikkanna, Kuri Pratap, Nagabhushana, Prakash Thuminad, and Sadhu Kokila brought the house down. Thus, Chikkanna’s impeccable timing in “Trivikrama” won him the trophy.
