The Diplomat Story

Singh, with the support of Sushma Swaraj (Revathi), navigates the complexities of international diplomacy to reunite Uzma with her daughter. Will he succeed against all odds? Watch the movie to find out.
The Diplomat Review

Shivam Nair is known for directing political thrillers like Naam Shabana and Special Ops. Another feather to his cap is The Diplomat. He portrayed the gripping story about India’s diplomatic forces and their mission to rescue an innocent citizen while maintaining political tension across the border. The best part of The Diplomat is that it does not go over the top. The moments are crafted with intelligence; even the silence speaks a lot in the narrative. Uzma Ahmed’s story is known, but visually replicating it while ensuring the audience connects with the behind-the-scenes struggle is no easy feat. The Diplomat pulls it off brilliantly and seamlessly. Ritesh Shah’s dialogues are well written.
The Diplomat Performances

John Abraham is a master in this forte. Be it Madras Cafe or Parmanu, he knows how to get into these characters without going over-bored. John Abraham delivers a brilliant performance in The Diplomat. His body language, expressions, and even sheer presence carry the film with intensity. Sadia Khateeb is outstanding. She was last seen in the film Raksha Bandhan and left an impact.

With The Diplomat, Sadia delivers her career best. Her expressions, emotions, and dialogue delivery were superb. The way she portrayed Uzma Ahmed with utmost sincerity deserves applause. From fear to relief, she portrayed every emotion brilliantly. Revathi is exceptional in the role of late Sushma Swaraj. Kumud Mishra always impresses with his performance. He lends solid support to the narrative. Sharib Hashmi leaves an impact in his limited screen presence. Jagjeet Sandhu, as the antagonist, Tahir, also played his role well.

The film blends at times. The first half seems dragged as it takes time to build up. Some scenes break the momentum. The second half keeps you to the edge of your seat for the thrilling climax.
Final Verdict

The Diplomat is a compelling political thriller that works well because of its precise execution and brilliant performances. John Abraham is back to business with his acting rather than action. A role where his presence speaks louder than his action. Sadia Khateeb deserves equal praise for her terrific role. Overall, if you are a fan of political thrillers, The Diplomat is a gripping watch this weekend.
